We can’t unlock our iPhone 7. The screen is dimmed and it won’t accept the passcode. There is a message that says we should wait for 15 minutes but waiting hasn’t resolved the problem. Restarting the phone hasn’t helped either. Any help would be much appreciated.

No. There are no viruses that can affect an iOS device that hasn't been jailbroken.
A failing touch-screen could cause it, but it's more likely that it was accidentally awakened in a pocket or something and random taps entered an incorrect password.
