Resetting Screen Time password counts as a failed attempt

We set up screen time on our iPad 6th gen a while ago to try to limit my time used on the device. Since then, we’ve changed the password one or two times. It’s been a while since we changed it, but we recently needed to access our settings again. Unfortunately, the person who put in the password forgot it. I remember that there’s a password reset option, and go to “Forgot Password.” I type in my Apple ID and Apple ID password, and choose a new password. It goes through, and it says it changed it. I go back to try to change one of the settings, and the failed attempt counter (which was at 7 or 8 failed attempts before) was back to zero. I try typing in the new password, and it says it’s wrong and counts it as a failed attempt.

I try it several more times before I give up, and I try to reset the password again. So I go to the same “forgot screen time password” button as last time, chose “forgot password,” and then logged in with my Apple ID credentials. The menu closes and it counts that as an attempt. Why on earth would logging in correctly to reset a password count as an attempt? I tried it again, and misspelled it, and it said “incorrect password.” I tried it again, making sure that it was correct, and it closed the menu again, counting as yet another failed attempt. We’re on attempt 8 or something, and we had a 60 minute cooldown before. I don’t know how much worse it going to get.

I’ve already contacted support, and they said the only option left was to restore the iPad. That’s fine; I can do that, but obviously I’d prefer not to. I wanted to check with the community before I do that.

I am having the exact same issue as Tinnanic. I have tried the recommended resolutions, however the first recommended resolution does not work as that is the problem being described. Try to reset, and it just counts as a failed attempt instead.

So, I have tried factory reset. Guess what it wants for a factory reset? You guessed it, the screen time passcode. So we can’t factory reset to get rid of the screen time passcode, because you need the screen time passcode in order to reset.

dead end.
