my touchpad is very hard to click on and the laptop does not seem to sit flat on the desk - like the case has swollen. Is this something I can get fixed while i wait at the genius bar?

Looks like a swollen battery inside, the battery needs to be replaced.
Indeed also depends on the availability of the new battery and time required to perform the replacement would be around 1-3 hours.
