Update 10.13.4 downloads but not all parts installed. Remains 10.13.3

I keep getting notifications that the MacOS has an update. It downloads and appears to install. However, the message not all parts installed appears and the OS number does not change.

I have downloaded the Comboupdate and tried installing normally and in Safe Mode. No change.

Any help gratefully received.

1. Start up from macOS Recovery

To start up from macOS Recovery, turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold one of the following combinations on your keyboard. Command-R is generally recommended, especially if you never installed macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later… https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904#notupdated

Command (⌘)-R

Install the latest version of macOS that was installed on your Mac.

Given the explicit instructions, you could have gotten High Sierra from the correct page link.

The full 10.13.6; by use of proper keys. ~ Or use the 'reinstall instructions' from here:

You may also erase the hard drive, too; from instructions on these pages. Not that you need to!

Thanks for the suggestion BDAqua.

I followed your instructions. However, the OS downloaded was OS X Lion. As I have High Sierra installed it would not allow me to install Lion. So back to square one.

But thanks once again for the idea.
