Laggy Facebook (Safari)

dont bother I am getting the same problem on Catalina but only with safari if I use Chrome there no problem at all.

I'm having an issue as well with Facebook on Safari. I'm using a 2020 iMac and just upgrade to Big Sur hoping that would fix it. Still super choppy. This is unacceptable on brand new machines.

I think the issue was the Facebook new design.

Same here. I'm on the m1 mac mini and safari is running very slowly, the images on a page are shown partially. Switching to firefox for now.

I continue to have this problem with OS Catalina 10.15.7. I also have display problems sometimes with the rightmost part of my FaceBook (only) browser cut off, so I can't see my notifications. It's been going on for months, since before the new FaceBook design.

Wow so even 2020 MacBooks have the issue , I thought it was just mine being 2012 pro , can’t believe apple Santa solved the problem. To me feels like you have spyware running in the background on the pc days

I’m also experiencing the same issues with Facebook on Safari with my 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro. Intel i5 Quad-Core, 8GB of LDDR3 memory. Running MacOS Big Sur 11.0.1 and Safari 14.0.1. I REALLY hope this issue isn’t made intentionally by Apple to make us upgrade to their new M1 macs!

MacBook Pro 13" Early 2015, Core i5 with 16GB RAM..

Safari 14.0.1

MacOS Big Sur 11.0.1

I guess memory leak in Safari while open Facebook page..

No issues in other browser..

Apple please fix this issues soonest possible !

I have exact same issue with Safari after facebook updated the design. 2013 late macbook pro retina (Catalina).

I also get the warning "webpage use significant memory" after a while.

Apple please fix this.

Yup I just bought a brand new iMac at Costco yesterday, and made the big mistake of upgrading to Big Sur. Facebook and Facebook messenger were working fine before the upgrade, now they are both lagging and taking forever to load. I can't even get photos I attach in messenger to send. Very frustrated. I hope Apple works out these issues soon.

Another problem with safari is when scrolling it suddenly jumps through rather then smooth scrolling, its hard to explain but when scrolling down the page rather then smooth it suddenly jumps further down the page hope people know what I mean, try msn.com (this is not the only website that it does it on. Also someone said its a Facebook problem with laggy website it never used to be like this before update so to me why should Facebook or others adjust it to safari

I've seen some new Facebook problems on Safari since I updated to Big Sur. Facebook Live videos not working. I've switched to Chrome only for Facebook. I'm also having problems with some other programs since the Big Sur update. Hopefully the interface will smooth out soon.

I agree. am operating a MacBook Air that's only couple of years old and OS BigSur, but since new FB format etc. this has definitely been more of an issue. Is this because FB won't 'play' nicely with Apple & vice versa?

It's certainly not anything we users can do anything to correct. It's obviously a FB/Safari issue, and I find it hard to believe, after months of this BS, that Apple's brilliant programmers/engineers can't figure out how to make Safari handle Facebook! Every other browser does it, just not Safari. This is ridiculous....

yes it's true, i've just bought the new macbook pro 13-inch m1 chip and using the safari to browse Facebook and it s super laggy, even after around 10 minutes, it appears a note says This webpage is using significant memory. Closing it may improve the responsiveness of your Mac.
