replacing hard drive

I've got a macbook pro 13" and want to replace the hard drive with a SSD. Do I need a SSD with a SATA or SATA III connector? I know it needs to be a 2.5" Any other specs I might need to know about?

The 2010 MBP has an SATA II 3GB/sec drive bus. However, the OWC SATA III 6GB/sec can only run at SATA I speeds (1.5gb?sec) on an SATA II bus. That may be true of other drive makes. (OWC and Crucial seem the most reliable in Macs).

Therefore OWC recommends only the 3GB/sec SATA II drive for your model.

This must be a new caution because it was not there a few months ago,

⚠️ NOTE: Change the drive CABLE when you change the drive. That cable is the only weak link in an otherwise robust computer. OWC does not have the proper cable for that model but I've seen them on Amazon.

Hi,

It depends on what model your MacBook Pro is. older models are using 2.5inch SATA drive, new ones are using M.2 NVMe interface one.

Please tell us what is your MacBook Pro model.

If you're sure it's using 2.5inch SATA drive, SATA or SATA II or SATA III all have same connector, so you don't care about that.

Amazon carry 2.5inch SATA SSD like following.

Or OWC carry high quality drives which suit MacBook Pro.
