macOS Catalina not recognizing Zoom H4N

I have an older Zoom H4n "Handy Recorder" that is *mostly* not being recognized by my MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.5.

My H4n is updated to the latest firmware available from Zoom at 1.90.

I have researched a bunch of different community discussion boards from people who have had the same issue. We're all going through the proper steps of plugging it in via USB and choosing "Storage" (instead of Audio I/F) when the H4n powers up.

For me, it only connects about 10% of the time with the particular USB cable I have. I have seen reports that trying a different USB cable will sometimes work. Has anyone else experienced this? Right now, I don't have access to another USB cable to try... I am currently having to run it through the Apple-issued USB-C adapter (the one with three ports: older USB, HDMI, and newer USB).

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm doing field recordings while traveling and can't offload the audio files until I get back home to my much older MacBook Pro that doesn't complain about proper USB cables. My guess is that the connection is getting lost in either the adapter or the cable itself.

Help!
