iCloud Mail marking messages as Junk

My iCloud mail is now sending many of my emails to the junk folder. Apple support was no help. Emails can be from any sender, many are in my contact list. Not every email (even from same sender) gets marked as junk. Pretty random. None of these were previously marked as junk. I have no rules setup in Mail. These are messages coming in through the iCloud server (not exchange or gmail...). I have tried:

  • Unchecked the "Enable Junk Mail Filtering" box on my Mac
  • Rebuild the Mail inbox
  • logged in and out of iCloud mail on all devices

BTW, this is mirrored on all of my devices. Seems to have started after I bought a MBP 16 last month and migrated from old computer.

Any help appreciated, mac support is completely useless.

See the article https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mail/cpmlprefjunk/mac

In very rare scenarios reset button is clicked .

Read https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202315

Also if mail application is corrupted remove the account and once again configure https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mail/mail35803/mac

The settings saved on iCloud.com mail are mirrored in IMAP account , it depends if you have changed the settings in original web account ( I don't know how is you Apple ID created , using gmail services or if it is a web iCloud account https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204174

The mails will follow that way only , do you use any vpn services , proxies see this https://support.apple.com/guide/icloud/if-you-have-trouble-receiving-email-mm6b1a3b04/icloud

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried all of the above. Still having the issue. No matter what settings I put in the Mail preferences for Junk, including disabling, or "mark as Junk but keep in inbox", iCloud continues to send messages to the "Junk" folder in iCloud and on all devices. This must be happening at the "front end" of iCloud, not application level. I cannot find any way to access those settings. My call to apple support earlier proved a major waste of time. After over 20 years of using this email service, I may have to abandon iCloud!
