Is Catalina needed to connect my iPhone

Do I have to update to Catalina on my MacBook Pro 2013 to connect my iPhone ll Pro to my computer, I'm getting a message saying my software needs to be updated. I do NOT want Catalina because I can't use my Photoshop CS6 with it. I have Mojave 10.14.6

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

That update in the message will not change your Mac OS version.

I've done it on two Macs, one with High Sierra and and the other with Mojave, and the OS stayed the same on both. I can now backup and synch our iPads with iPadOS 13.5 to either computer with iTunes and no issues.

Apple is being vague about what get updated but, as far as I can see, this must install a small patch for iTunes.

It is a small, quick download and it should be safe to proceed. However, I made sure I had a current Time Machine backup before downloading and installing that patch, just as I do for updates or patches. Belt and braces, ya know!
