revisiting airpods clicking

Brand new airpods (2nd generation from costco). today was my first day using them and they click when I move my head in certain positions and lose connectivity now and then. I work outside and am constantly moving. It is very annoying. I am going to take them back to costco if I can't find a solution. I do not want to spend time on it or put papertowels in them or cut off the black rubber thingy or whatever. They are brand new and I want them to work. Are they duds? Or possibly a knockoff?
