On Screen Display (OSD) for Volume from AVR not shown on the video screen

My Apple TV is connected to a Home Theater system with a Marantz Audio/Video Receiver. When using the Apple TV, the OSD for volume is not displayed on the TV. The volume does display when using a satellite set-top box to watch live TV. The video is output to a LG 65" TV from the Marantz receiver.

Does anyone know how to get the receiver's OSD to display when watching content with Apple TV? Or is this just not possible?

Here is the response from Marantz:

"What you are describing is normal. The receiver is compatible with 4k content. however, the portion of the bandwidth that is usually reserved for the OSD is being used by the 4k signal instead.

You can see from the following link to the online version of the owner's manual that the menu screen not being displayed on your TV is something that is likely to happen with both 4k and HDR which are commonly used together.

At the time the NR1608 came out most of our units had this limitation with the OSD and 4k inputs. We do currently sell receivers that will display the OSD with a 4k signal but even with those units the OSD may not display for all of the other circumstances listed in the above link.

The NR1609 and its successor the NR1710 can both display the OSD while a 4k signal is being passed through them but they have different hardware than the 1608 to allow for this."

Yes, The Apple TV is input to the Marantz AV Surround Receiver SR5012. The TV is connected as the primary video output from the receiver. Standard home theater setup.

I have noticed that the OSD does show up with at least one of the streaming services, but not others. I need to pay more attention to this behavior, so I can be more specific. It does NOT display with Disney+, Apple TV+, and the PBS app. I also have Acorn TV, Britbox, and Amazon, but will need to confirm the results before I can be more specific.

My guess is that it has something to do with the video resolution/output that is streaming from the service, and what the receiver is capable of processing to overlay the OSD.

I think you are right about the Marantz receiver being the problem. Ironically, I purchased the Marantz receivers (I have two systems) when I upgraded my TVs and found that my old receivers were not able to handle the 4K video. Next stop is to Marantz customer support.

I'm wondering if there are other brands/models of receivers that have the same problem? My two Marantz receivers are SR 5012 and NR1608.

Also, are there other apps or streaming services that work, or not?
