after syncing my ipad with my mac i cant find the photos on my mac

Hello good people,

I recently synced my IPad with my mac and want to confirm all photos and videos have been stored accross on the mac but i cant find them,

i would say im old school, i do have some connection with the new software and technology but this sort of thing used to be as simple as highlight files, drag across, create and name new file,

can someone help me with where the files are kept and

is it still possible to do this the old simple way,
