Digital Crown Unresponsice

Took my series 4 watch swimming, turned on water lock, and about 15 min later got out and crown wouldn’t respond. Watch then got really hot and kept restarting. I dried it off, reset the watch several times, rinsed the crown, and even erased and repaired the watch, but it won’t respond. It spins and presses fine, but nothing happens when I spin or press. This was my first swim with my watch. I don’t see any signs of water damage as everything else is normal. How do I make the crown respond again? I don’t want to have to buy a new watch.
