iMessage on kids phone not working

Hi All

This is a bit of a sensitive subject - but I purchase my kids 2 iPhones - I am divorced - I used to be able to send them pictures and gifs and then realised their iMessages aren't sending they are going through as a green text..

Is this because location settings have been turned off? I think while they are with the other parent they have changed their settings so I cant send pictures anymore.

I can promise this is NOT about knowing location I just want to send gifs and funny pictures to the kids

Rest assured that the location setting has nothing to do with the sending and receiving of iMessages (Blue Text). If you suspect that the location sharing was changed on your kids' iPhone then that may be true however it will not stop iMessages from working. Below is why SMS Messages (Green) are going through and not iMessages (Blue):

  1. Did you know that pictures can also be sent and received via SMS Messages? Make sure that MMS Messaging is set to ON in the settings for Messages on all of your iPhones.
  2. They could be in an area with no cellular service and no WiFi service. Then the message will convert to a SMS message.
  3. Their iPhones may be turned OFF
  4. Their Messages may be turned OFF
  5. They may have logged out of the iCloud account

There are several reasons as shown above and turning OFF location services is not one of them.
