Speaker has too much of noise after upgrading to macOS Catalina

I have the same issue. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). Left speaker wasn't working properly, so I used the right speaker to balance the sound out and now the right speakers not working either just like you. I did not go blast the speaker out as I rarely play music on my computer. This definitely has to do with their upgrade. Mines just sound like crap right now. It's awful.

I have the same issue too. My laptop is the same as yours.

It started on mine after 10.15.7 upgrade. Zoom meetings have been terrible. Same as OP, left speaker affected. Right speaker seems fine for now.

Every issue on this thread reads as identical to issues with my mid-2015 MacBookPro since recent Catalina upgrades.

I’ve never played music on the laptop speakers, no issues with the speakers at all until recently.

The right speaker is so distorted that it is painful to listen to an informative podcast.

Apple certainly must be more responsible and engage issues as they become apparent in consumer use of their product.

Yes, the recent software update 10.15.7 did not fix this problem.

I have tried downgrading the OS to High Sierra, I could still see the distorted audio output.

This is very painful. I hope Apple takes notice of this issue and provides a fix.

This is clearly not a hardware issue.

I am having the exact same issue, both speakers started to sound as if blown right after updating to Catalina.

2015 Macbook PRO retina. Not happy about it.

I followed Boyd Porter advise and reported it on feedback site. Hope our voices are heard and issue is acknowledged.

Posted a report to feedback and have heard nothing from them. I did receive a “Discovery” point, however points do not address the update/speaker issue at hand. Apple failure to engage their problems, again.

Sadly, in hope that it will solve the issue I just upgraded to Big Sur, but no luck... same issue persisted.

It happened right after I upgraded to Catalina few months ago and it looks like apple isn't going to address it :(

This issue is very frustrating. What really is weird to me is that the speaker plays multiple simultaneous test tones and sweeps and whatnot very clearly, but whenever a complex sound is played it is a total disaster. I would expect a damaged speaker or even a messed up software issue to affect the entire operation of the speaker, but it only affects music, voices, etc. and not basic tones anywhere from 20 - 10k+ htz

Same audio complaint as the above comments. Zoom calls on my early 2015 MacBook Pro Retina are now unbearable. Reported the problem on Apple feedback but I am not optimistic about a fix since our reported complaints are small in number and the Big Sur update does not help.

I am seeing this issue after upgrading to macos 10.15.6. no issues with headphones.

Tried all the solutions that are suggested online. Will wait for next update hoping it will be fixed

This happened to me too! I've just upgraded and I just noticed now when I played music without my earphones, the right speakers were playing noisily.

10.15.7 has not fixed this issue.

Do you think this is an update bug?
