Apple TV with Optimum

I purchased an Apple TV from Optimum Cable on Long Island New York. The offer from the cable company is for a year of Apple TV+ for free. This box is for my sister who - at the moment - lacks an Apple ID. To access Apple TV+ she is required to create an ID and enter a credit card. The monthly fee is 4.99 per month, but she is supposed to get a year free. I see no way of associating the device with the Cable offer. How will she get this service free for a year?

She has to have an Apple ID to use an Apple TV. This means creating one per the directions in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204316 and yes it requires a credit card which is only charged if she buys content that requires an Apple ID.

To redeem the free offer she will need to use the instructions in Apple TV+ - One Year Offer and if she continues to have a problem she can call AppleCare and they will help. She can use AppleCare contact Information to get the number, however in the USA it is (800) 275-2273.
