Hi Amynthys.

Thanks for following up and letting us know that the issue is not that the sound is not heard.

You mentioned that the volume is changing on your iPhone. If you're using an iPhone X or later, please check to see if 'Attention Aware Features' is enabled. This setting allows the TrueDepth camera to check to see if you're looking at the iPhone, and will then lower the volume of alerts: About Attention Aware features on your iPhone X or iPad Pro - Apple Support.

If there is no change, or if that feature is turned off, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics. Do you have 'Change with Buttons' turned on or off? Does it make a difference if it's on or off, or does the same behavior remain?

To be sure that we've covered all the basics, have you also tried restarting your iPhone with these steps: Restart your iPhone

If the issue persists let us know which apps you're seeing this issue with.

Also, what is the iOS version number showing when you go to Settings > General > About > Software Version?

Take care.

Both of my iPhones, and X and 11 Pro Max, and they have the volume continuously turned down on its own. On both phones I have tried every recommended fix from resetting to turning Bluetooth completely off so nothing is there to interfere with the volume. He continues to do the same thing. I did notice, that when I look at the sound settings and find the volume at zero I can go out of that settings to any of the other settings, then go back to sound settings and the volume has turned itself back up. There is no fix, everything recommended has not worked, and being able to see the volume at zero, getting out of that setting and then going back to it and find it at Full volume, tells me it is a software problem. The only fix for this problem affecting thousands, is an apple fix.

Not sure. I just went to Screen time settings toggled on content and privacy restrictions, and Under volume limits Checked don’t allow; I’m going to try this

in my GM vehicle

Also, yesterday, In my 20 GM I had my iPhone connected to media. When adjusting the volume on my vehicle infotainment system the ringer/volume bar on my iPhone would pop up and adjust volume settings; that tells me the iPhone volume control is syncing to my vehicle volume. So I keep my volume in my vehicle set low at all times And if iPhone is syncing up to match that volume that explains possibly my ringer volume staying low when exiting the vehicle

I will try your possible fix today

thx

This problem has been going on for nearly a year, based on the original thread, now labeled as resolved. It is not. I have narrowed the issue to turning on the bluetooth connections. I have 6 bluetooth devices, and despite the fact that only one of those devices may be causing this problem, ringer functionality should not be randomly controlled by ANY bluetooth device on that list. This is a problem that requires that functionality be corrected to prevent this random occurrence by any bluetooth device.

I was on the original thread that someone in support said was resolved. Well, it’s not! I own GM 2020 Sierra that every time I connect to Bluetooth ringer volume automatically lowers. Others on thread with different brands same problem. I have tried every suggested fix on original thread and none work! GM dealer tells me it’s a Apple issue and Apple doesn’t seem to have a clue. I like others have missed many calls due to ringer volume lowering when connected to my vehicle.

I don’t know if it is the same problem but my ringer volume decreases every time I connect to a Bluetooth device. I can watch the volume decrease on the indicator as if I am pushing the buttons if I am looking at the phone when it connects. Iphone 7 ios 3.5.1. Not sure when it started because I originally thought I was causing it somehow and I didn’t associate it with Bluetooth. Now I know better.

Again, for me, the problem is only when I am Bluetooth connected to certain devices (my GMC infotainment system & my plantronics earpiece) The volume for rings and alerts is turned down. I can turn it back up but it is almost immediately turned back down in front of my eyes. I’ve tried every remedy I’ve seen posted. There’s no setting adjustment, phone reset, nor function disable that I’ve found that makes any difference.

Bluetooth connection is continuously turning my ringer and text notification volume down. And I can’t fix it. Frustrating

Update: I just heard back from the Apple advisor assigned to my case. Although they don't have a specific fix for my claim, the engineers/investigative team are working on a solution which will most likely come in the form of a software update. No mention of a timeline on this but it sounds like they are genuinely looking at this problem and working on a fix.

How is encouraging people to contact Apple support in an effort to provide them with more data and analytics not helpful? There are numerous iPhone models with different hardware, running various versions of iOS, with different apps installed, configured uniquely by each user. These are just a few of the variables engineering has to sort out to hopefully find the common thread causing the volume drop. I'm in no way disputing your experience. I'm dealing with the same problem.

issue still not resolved (and possibly is worse with the upgrade)

i did the iOS 14.2 upgrade and here’s what I’m experiencing when connecting via Bluetooth to the infotainment system in my 2020 GMC AT4:

The volume isn’t being turned down instantly like it has been. But read below

Even with my volume indicator on my iPhone showing up all the way, when I am connected, now there is no sound or alert from my phone or infotainment if a call or text comes in. There is silence and only visual indications of incoming calls and messages.

i used to be able to hear alerts in this vehicle as long as my volume was up - which was a rarity in itself as you know if you’ve been reading this string.

So the volume might as well be down because now there are no audible alerts
