Hi Amynthys.

Thanks for following up and letting us know that the issue is not that the sound is not heard.

You mentioned that the volume is changing on your iPhone. If you're using an iPhone X or later, please check to see if 'Attention Aware Features' is enabled. This setting allows the TrueDepth camera to check to see if you're looking at the iPhone, and will then lower the volume of alerts: About Attention Aware features on your iPhone X or iPad Pro - Apple Support.

If there is no change, or if that feature is turned off, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics. Do you have 'Change with Buttons' turned on or off? Does it make a difference if it's on or off, or does the same behavior remain?

To be sure that we've covered all the basics, have you also tried restarting your iPhone with these steps: Restart your iPhone

If the issue persists let us know which apps you're seeing this issue with.

Also, what is the iOS version number showing when you go to Settings > General > About > Software Version?

Take care.

Not to be morbid, but i’m a Mental Health professional who manages the crisis and suicide center on weekends. I am on call for emergency intake a lot, and my XR is for work. So your reference actually fits my situation. One user was a firefighter on call, and he missed alerts as well. This isn’t just a petty inconvenience. I have to call people BACK from my iPad so the volume doesn’t go down while they’re talking. Imagine telling someone in a crisis, “Can you repeat that, my volume went down while you were talking”.

This doesn’t help me. I bought a new iPhone 11Pro, have the most recent iOS and have turned of “control with buttons” and “Attention Aware Features “. It still happens randomly that my volume turns itself down, sometimes to zero.

I think it may be after connecting to my car via Bluetooth but I can’t be sure.

I have a 2020 GMC Sierra and this frustrating problem happens in my pickup too. Phone volume settings constantly are turned down. Like right in front of my eyes. I own other vehicles with bluetooth that this doesn't happen in. And I have other bluetooth connections where this occurs (Plantronics bluetooth earpiece). This is an Apple/IOS issue that needs to be addressed and it's been occurring for two long.

They don’t care. Mine is so far gone, I have to lug my 12.9 inch iPad Pro around and answer calls from there with my headphones on. Picture that. I can’t hear calls and trying to listen to music is a joke. My volume just simply doesn’t stay up, and I am not connected to any devices. I went to the Apple store and they tried to make me do a insurance claim, so I’d have to pay $99 to replace my phone. That is absolutely ridiculous considering this is a Apple iOS issue triggered by an update. I can’t take this anymore.

Lets keep this thread going. My 2020 GMC Sierra AT4 (100% always) and my Plantronics Bluetooth earpiece (less frequently) still are Turing the ring and text tone volume down on my iPhone. In my truck, I can stare at my phone, holding the volume up button and watch the volume bar fight me to go down to silence! WTF I was hoping iOS 14 would solve this and it did not. Don't waste your time with all the iPhone settings that you read in forums. They don't work. GMC tech support was seriously less than helpful denying the existence but my dealership's service dept in Colorado told me its a well-known issue to them. Apple? iOS? Why won't someone fix this?

Everyone should just give up as apple only does updates that eventually make your system feel bloated and run slow which will make you forget about the non functioning phone issue but instead focus on the next upgrade coming.

I'm about to get a battery replacement and screen replacement for my ipad for $400. They make it purposely expensive to fix so some will think why not buy a new one vs repairing.

My phone still has the sound problem and if they wanted to fix, I'n sure they could add a script in their updates that limits ringer volume access only to ringer volume controls, but they wont.

I started with Android and was unhappy and went to apple and was happy for a while based on my 10 apple iphone/ipod/ipad devices I own.

But going Samsung or Microsoft next future purchase.

I think you are on the right track. Too many different (similar but different) symptoms with very little info on when it happens. Mine seems to have been fixed with iOS 14 but I don’t believe my issue was app related since I don’t run run very many apps and the Bluetooth devices I connect with are headsets so I can use my phone in noisy environments. It seemed random at first but it wasn’t and it took a while for me to put the pieces together before I called Apple.
