How do I begin a backup to iCloud from MAC Book Pro?

I just typed in my question...can it not be seen?
My MAC Book Air is not backing up from iCloud...for almost a year. It appears that I am beginning to misplace data...how can I back up from MAC Blook Air...I have been paying for ICloud storage for several years
