A black bar comes under my Mail app making the mail screen shorter

When I enter my Mail app, it is ok for couple of secs and then suddenly a black bar appears in the bottom, making the screen go shorter.

Have tried restarting and updating app; nothing worked.

Hey there dola50,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you’re seeing a black bar on the bottom of your Mail app. We’ll be happy to help.

If you tap or swipe up on the black bar, does it bring any draft emails up? If not, touch and hold the writing pencil icon and see if any appear. If they do, complete the draft or delete it and this should help. If you have drafts on multiple accounts, follow these steps to show them:

  1. Tap Mailboxes in the upper-left corner.
  2. Tap Edit at the top of the list.
  3. Tap Add Mailbox, then turn on the All Drafts mailbox.

Take a look at this article for more info:

Organize email in Mail on iPhone

We hope this helps.

Take care.

Hey greggory34,

Thanks for providing that info. If the steps in If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open didn’t resolve this, you may want to back up your iPhone, then reinstall iOS using the steps under “If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up” from these links:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

Test again after this and see if the issue is resolved.

All the best.
