Just for the public record:
TEXT TAKES PRECEDENCE over everything else in the Viewer when the Select Tool (A) is the active tool. All control points and OSCs directly INSIDE the Text region in the Viewer are not accessible as long as the Text and Select tool is active.
There are FIVE other tools you can use **in the Viewer**: Blade (B key shortcut), Trim (T), Position (P), Range (R) and Hand (H).
You cannot use the Zoom tool because it actually has a function in the Viewer. All these other tools will give you direct access to all control points for objects like Masks and OnScreen Controls that don't belong to the Text Object.
You may have to get used to toggling between two different tools when dealing with text, OSCs and masks in the viewer (not hard to do at all), but it can be annoying since the active tool in the viewer will carry over to be the active tool in the storyline as well and you will frequently have to pay attention that you don't mess up something in the storyline because you've changed the editing tool to other than the one you were using previously.
