Convert normal apple watch gps into an apple watch gps+cellular?

If I have a gps apple watch, can I convert it into an apple watch gps+cellular or would I need to buy a new one?

Does the apple watch gps+cellular use a physical chip or virtual chip?

The GPS+cellular model uses an E-sim so you would need to buy the apple watch cellular version.
