Is anyone experiencing terrible sound with the music app on their Mac under Catalina. The music sounds as if half the music is missing, at times it just cracks or disappears. Never had these issues with iTunes.?

If these are songs that were imported, try reimporting them again: Import music from a computer to Music on Mac
If these are from the store and are downloaded, try deleted them and redownloading them again: Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books

No need to be sarcastic, just be aware that there are issues which may not affect you but affects others. I never had issues with the butterfly keyboard but others did. Keep an open mind, that’s what these communities are about.
FWIW, my point was people can have local problems on their machines. They can be caused by any number of factors such as corrupt files, software conflicts, damaged installs etc. That doesn't mean the OS is inherently flawed. I would have made some suggestions but you have already reverted to Mojave.
FWIW, it's unlikely it is a Catalina issue. I had Catalina installed on 5 different Macs without any audio issues. Including one used as a music server to a $20k audio system.
I am happy it works for you. But there is an issue as many have attested to. The music app in Catalina is ripe with issues.
Yes. I guess Apple sends me "special" versions of Catalina as opposed to those who have local issues. Nice of them.
Unfortunately these steps did not work. What did work was a roll back to Mojave one computer and using Parallels Desktop to setup Mojave on another. It seems that While the intent to break up iTunes was a good idea the music app itself is flawed. The engineers need to rebuild the app, using the iTunes model as a starting point. Remember iTunes started as a stand-alone app.
