I am trying to import photos from my iPhone to my mac. I connect my phone, it is not showing under locations in the finder and in Photos in the import tab, I am missing all my photos. I backed up my photos on iCloud but i want to transfer the photos to my mac so i can clear phone storage.

I read the instructions - i checked for latest update my PCs up to date. I did receive a message when plugging my phone "to use iPhone with iTunes you need to install OS X 10.11.4 or later" I checked the system information and saw that my iPhone is under USB.
I need iCloud pictures
