I was allowing my son to use my Mac to look at images.Gifs etc because he wanted to draw something. I then started wondering if going to google (on safari) and looking at gifs/images on the images tab on the google browser gives virus?
Note: He didn't go to any links; only the google images tab. He did not download anything either.
Help would be much appreciated.

There are no macOS viruses so the answer to that question is no. However, you should be aware that Google is specifically designed to harvest and upload all the information you use it for—all searches, downloads, Google browser activity, etc without limitation.
All he was doing was just looking at the image preview or whatever it's called. He didn't actually go to the website the images are from.
