Macbook Pro(2011)

I have a Macbook Pro from 2011 which was running very slow, and had limited space available. so I have attempted to reset it back to factory settings and I have loaded OS X Mountain Lion, and I have managed to add subsequent updates fro this operating system.

However, I cannot seem to upgrade the OS with the Mavericks version. The App store does not show any further updates, and I have the 'Install OS X Mavericks', in Finder but when I try to load the new version, all that happens is that my MacBook essentially restarts with message of a problem which I can send to Apple, but no install icon or message appears, so I cannot move my MacBook forward.

Can anyone advise me one this problem, and what I can do to fix it?

You can download macOS 10.11 and macOS 10.13 from links on these links:

If you choose 10.11, then make sure to follow the instructions very carefully as there are several steps involved.

You can still upgrade to Mavericks, but since last year the only way to do it is to reset your Mac's date to 2014 (disconnect from the internet before doing that). Hopefully then the installer will work.

Do a full backup before trying this.
