Follow the steps here: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support


If you used a passcode or Touch Id / Face ID, its very secure. And would require very expensive equipment to get into without destroying the data.


To Erase the device, follow the steps in the support document linked to above.


If you do erase it, don't remove it from your account. This keeps the iPhone from being usable by anybody else.
