Icloud calendar on Mac - Cannot delete or edit a recurring event

I would like to delete a recurring event on my Icloud calendar on the Mac.

clicking on it (in hopes of editing it or deleting it by clicking "delete") => endless spinning wheel (not beach ball) and "loading event details".

Trying to drag it to another day => "couldn't save changes to [title of event]. Your changes to this event couldn't be saved because it was just updated by another device." I do not know of any other device that could be updating it, unless some very specific and peculiar hacker has attacked this one event of my dull calendar.

More info: when I try a different browser, I can open the event and then get an error message ""couldn't delete [title of event]. This event couldn't be deleted because of a server error. Please try again." The two options are REPORT (which leads to sending a report to Apple) or OK (which removes the error message and lands me back where I was).

I get the same result when I have closed all programs, shut down the computer and gone home for the weekend, only to find the same problem upon my return.

Other than learning to ignore a repeating event on my calendar, are there good solutions?
