stop safari opening half screen

I have an iPad. I’ve seen other posts about problems with Safari opening a tiny screen on the right when I click on a link in Mac Mail. I cannot find any place on the iPad to change this so Safari will open in a full screen, and I seem unable to enlarge the screen when it opens in mail. Hopefully there is an easy trick to this, but I haven’t figured it out. Thanks so much for your help.

Also, this is somewhat new: when I make a typo it is now impossible to place the cursor in the middle of a word to correct it. I have to touch at the end of the word and erase until I get to the correction point and retype. Why is this? It makes correcting text so much harder. Is this also a setting I don’t know about?

You have clearly managed to enable a Safari Slide Over view - this being a major multitasking feature of iPadOS, fully detailed in the iPad User Guide for iPadOS.

Here is the easy way to change the Slide Over view, to full screen... Identify the small grey drag-bar at top-centre of the Slide Over window. Touch-and-drag the drag-bar to the top-centre of the screen - and lift your finger; the Slide Over window will transform into a full screen view.
