Is it necessary to have icloud backup?
What happen if icloud is full? will it affect the performance of my device?

if one does not have a backup to icloud or to a computer and the device malfunction and needs to be restored your data is lost.
if the icloud is full it will not alter the performance of your device but backups will stop and so will other icloud based things like if one set photos to be stored there and contacts and so forth.
