I’m having trouble charging my 6th Gen iPod Classic

So I recently ordered a pre-owned iPod Classic 6th Gen which arrived today, and I plugged it in to charge. It started to charge like normal, but after roughly thirty minutes, I picked it up and unplugged it because I forgot to update the date and time. Once that was done, I plugged the iPod back in to charge only to find that it was giving me no indication as to whether or not it was actually charging. It no longer showed the animation of the battery charging up, nor did it show it if I held down the play/paused button for a few seconds.

I used two different types of Apple charger plugs but still, no sign on the iPod so I got my laptop, put my laptop to charge and once it was on, connected my iPod to my laptop. As I hoped, it came up with the ‘connected’ symbol on the iPod screen and in the top right, it had a white battery symbol with a lightning bolt.

Now my question is, if I leave my laptop and iPod for a few hours, will my laptop successfully charge it, meaning I always have to use my laptop to charge the iPod?

Or is there a problem with the iPod itself that requires me to take it to the retailer I ordered it from (CeX)? Because the cable that came with my iPod worked when I first plugged it in to a socket and it also works on my laptop, but it no longer charges my iPod if I plug it into an Apple USB plug or any other kind of USB plug
