How can I mute the hold music and still hear when the caller gets back on line?

How do you plan to mute the hold music or the caller in the first place?

Note that the hold music and the caller are on the same voice stream. You are not going to be able to separate the two and therefore will not be able to distinguish.

Yes that will only mute you and your voice getting through to the caller. You will continue to hear whatever is playing or whoever is on the other side.
