numbering pages

I am trying to enter page numbers but the numbering option on the tab is grayed out and hovering at the top of the page does not produce the box with the numbering option. I was able to number other documents using this method bit not this one. Help!

Whatever I choose for Headers & Footers (Hide or Match) and Create a new section or After this section, the Page numbering boxes remain grey. I'm using version 11.0 of Pages.

Hi Marty,

Inspector > Document tab > Header and Footer.

Are those boxes ticked?
