airpods not responding to volume adjustments during cellphone calls

I have Airpod Pros, and iphone 7. I usually pair them by opening the case near the phone. However, during cellphone calls, I often find that I can't adjust the volume either by using the volume buttons, or the slider in the control center. It works fine for podcasts.

If the issue is exclusive to the AirPods being paired with the phone, we would suggest the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:


  1. Force close any open apps: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support and then restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support.
  2. Check for, and install, any available updates for your iOS software: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.
  3. Check for, and install, any available carrier settings updates: Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.
  4. Reset your AirPods: Reset your AirPods - Apple Support.
