iPhone touch screen broken while phone is in airplane mode. Can I still recover my photos not yet backed up to iCloud?

Hello all!

I recently dropped my phone while out camping and broke the touch screen. The phone was in airplane mode at the time as I was outside of my service range, and is now stuck in airplane mode as the screen is black (yet still backlit) and not responding to touch. I tried force restarting but I can’t tell if its turning off/on. Tried connecting to my MacBook via usb once I got home to try and back up what photos I took while camping but realized I cannot click nor see the the “trust this computer” prompt on the phone as the screen is broken...

Is there any way to recover my photos/videos that had not yet been backed up to iCloud since I was not connected to data/WiFi before I broke the screen? Once the phone finally runs out of battery will airplane mode still be enabled once I re-charge it? Or am I gonna be forced to just repair the phone screen before I can back up photos to iCloud?
