I am trying to change my old Apple ID out of my phone

I am trying to change my old Apple ID out of my phone and it is giving me a lot of errors. For instance when I go to sign into my new Apple ID into FaceTime and iMessages is gives me an error and doesn’t sign in. And it shows my old ID when I go into setting and click on my name. How can I get rid of my old Apple ID? Especially since it’s giving me errors when I’m trying to sign into my new one
