Sold my iPhone to someone else, now they can't download apps

Hello,

as the title said I just sold someone my old iPhone 6. Before I sold it, I followed the steps on this website to sign out of iCloud and reset the phone: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351

Now this person made a new iCloud address to sing into the phone, but they say they cannot download apps. I checked whether I am signed in to that iPhone, but I am not. What could be the problem?

This might be the problem of the person you sold the phone to. See What to do when the Mac App Store shows a different Apple ID for software updates https://www.macworld.com/article/3267709/mac-app-store-apple-id.html. This document refers to a prior owner, but is also applies to cases where a current owner's old Apple ID is the problem.

Basically, If an app is purchased/downloaded using one Apple ID, then you can't update/download it with another Apple ID. The app is inextricably linked to the first Apple ID. The purchaser of your phone will have to delete such and app and purchase/download it with the second Apple ID.

____________

But, if you made a mistake, the phone still could the activation locked. If it is, then just give the purchaser the password, your password, that is associated with the problem Apple ID.
