If I send a message and it says delivered. And this person has their read receipts on but they check the message in an area where they don't have service or WiFi, will it still show you that they read it or will it continue to say delivered until they are in an area with service again?
Your latter assumption is correct. The recipient's iPhone has to make a connection to the internet to send the read receipt. If the recipient's iPhone does not have an internet connection to send you the receipt then it will be sent once an internet connection has been made.
