The manual describes use of Firewire connection for recording

The topic is obviously not a question but a statement.

The question is:

Isn't this out of date and obsolete by this time?... Firewire?

I have a new Macbook Pro with touch bar and Catalina.

Its been about 10 years since Macs came with firewire ports

as I remember.

So I am trying to record directly into Final Cut Pro from a

Canon video cam via HDMI - USB adapter. The USB cable

is a 3.0 cable that came with the adapter. It in turn connects

via a USB - USB-C adapter to connect to the ports on the

Macbook Pro.

As I stated in a previous post about this PhotoBooth.app

sees the HDMI - USB adapter and will record from it.

For pro software I would think that at least Final Cut Pro

would also see it. If not also iMovie, Quick Time app and

VideoCapture app.

Thank your for time and attention;

Can you give specific details about this capturing device?

What brand and model?

Does it come with its own software for the Mac?

You should probably be able to capture video with the appropriate software, and then import into FCP for editing, but unless this device can generate timecode on the fly, you won't be able to record "live" into FCP.

Impossible to say for sure without knowing exactly what devide we are talking about, but very unlikely.

So, Photo Booth doesn't care about time code?

If there is a video signal getting into the Macbook

from the camera via the capture device,

as evidenced in Photo Booth,wouldn't

that imply it is sending time code?

As an aside, I do development in web related applications

in Javascript and php. I have to be able to leave as few stones

unturned as possible in debugging.
