Why is it frozen?

Since last night, my laptop is completely frozen on the login page. I cannot move the mouse or anything. I’ve powered off the lap top, that did not work either. I am just trying to do college homework and everything is filed in my laptop. I have a MacBook Air 2012 if that helps. I’ve tried everything to reboot my laptop and it just won’t work. Please help

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.15

If your Mac starts up to a blank screen

Read and follow each of it steps also, all the way through and including the end, which takes you to:
