Which password prompt?
Does your new password meet the requirements? Apple policy requires you use strong passwords with your Apple ID. Your password must have eight or more characters and include upper and lowercase letters, and at least one number. You can also add extra characters and punctuation marks to make your password even stronger. Apple also uses other password rules to make sure your password isn't easy to guess.
Or is thus just the return key? If there’s an okay button, click that? Does the return key work in other contexts?
You are attempting to change your Apple ID password.
Your new password is not being accepted, as the return key is not being accepted.
Your previous password was believed weaker, and your new password being attempted believed stronger.
Add a mixed case word or two, and try again. (We don’t know what comprises the other password rules.)
And does the okay button light up?
And which of the many Apple ID password prompts are we discussing? Apple has a number of ways to change that.
I do have a strong password with all that you mentioned above. My old password was very short and it worked just fine. Before I changed my Apple ID, al I had to do is press the enter key.
