I cannot get the most recent security updates to install. High Sierra, 10.13.6, macbook pro mid 2012.
Error message ERROR_7E7AEE96CA. Says quit installer and reboot.
I have tried this in safe mode also, no luck. Any ideas how to get it to go on through or what the holdup is?
Shouldn't you be able to update to Catalina? Macbooks from 2012 are supported on Catalina? I'm assuming you don't want to update due to loss of 32 bit support.
Do you have enough space for the update? it says ~2 gb is the update size, but it might need more for the installer.

Trash the Install MacsOS High Sierra.app in Applications then a new copy more recent version can be downloaded.

They're cumulative so you just need the last one, try the standalone in Safe Mode...
Good point updates generally require 25GB or more to jockey all the files around. :)
I appreciate the suggestions. I had upgraded to Mohave and the machine really struggled. I reverted to high sierra and it runs great. I am thus hesitant to move to catalina. There is plenty of room on the HD, and it is a physical not SSD drive.

Nothing suggested worked. Safe mode etc. I am thinking I might have to do a complete fresh download and install. I have an Imac running High Sierra 10.13 3 and it took perfectly.
I am currently using a MacBook Pro Mid 2012, and it works great on Catalina. I did upgrade the HD to a 120 gb SSD.
