Transferred child to another family sharing account, country/region not updating

Our family moved from the US to Switzerland, and Apple does not provide a ready solution for changing the family's country in order to keep Family sharing functioning. You can change the parent's country, but not the kid's. I know, ridiculous, right?

Anyway, the official workaround is to setup a new family with a new Apple ID for me as the organizer, set it to Switzerland and then transfer the kids to the new family. So I did that. However, the kids' country did not update. It's still set to the US, and still greyed out. You might wonder what Apple is thinking, with their idea of "family" not allowing kids to follow their parents?

Now what?

Is the below what you did when setting up a new family?

You need to disband the existing family using the steps in the article below. The new organizer can then set up the new family and invite the family members to join the new family. If there are children under 13 years old, the new organizer needs to leave the existing family, set up the new family, and then the under 13 years old children can be transferred to the new family. Then disband the old family and join the new family.

Signing out/in on the device didn't change anything. Country still set to US, still greyed out.

Can't imaging why Apple wouldn't allow parents to change their children's country when the family moves. Not at all an unusual occurrence and who but the parents (both of them, in agreement and together) should have the authority to do such a thing?

I've already been on the phone with a senior advisor and setting up a new family was their official answer. That didn't work. Any other ideas out there?

So amazing, these kinds of things with this company.

More or less. I have an 11 and 12 year old, so I had to transfer them before disbanding the old family, which meant setting up a new Apple ID for me, since you can't be a member of two families at once and the organizer can't leave the family without disbanding it, which can't happen with kids under 13.... So you see the endless loop it creates.

Problem is that the kids retained the old country even after joining the new family with me as the organizer in the new country. Doesn't make a lick of sense. Par for the Apple course lately.

Update: next senior advisor, after waiting *another* hour on the phone, tells me I should try to switch the children back to the other family. So I go to try that, and he tries to set up a screen sharing, during which I get disconnected from the call. I keep going trying to switch the kids back, and then – only then – I get a notice that you can only change families once per year.

NOW, I've got two kids tied to my iTunes/App Store ID that I can't remove, can't transfer, and can't share because our regions are different. Can't change their region, can't change mine without losing purchases. This just went from bad to much worse.

The kids' devices don't allow the option to change their country because they're under 13. That part makes sense. Apple should leave that kind of change up to the parents. However, they don't even give us that courtesy. They officially suggest transferring your child to another "family". So nice.

I'll try signing them out and back in, but I don't think this problem exists on the device. It's an Apple problem.
