I am a photographer, about to hit the road and wondering it I can upload photos from an SD card onto the iPad or a connected portable hard drive. I am looking for a solution to store photos without going through a computer. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

OK. Great. I can use an iPad to load my photos. I assume I can also transfer them directly to a connected hard drive. Yes? I do not need a new $1000 iPad to do this, as nice as that would be. But, I would like an Apple iPad. How many generations should I go back to get this done reasonably? I need the Internet, too but that is about it. Your recommendations, please, ladies and gentleman.
