everytime i try to update numbers it wont let me and says that it was purchased with another apple id. how do I fix it because it was originally purchased through someone else's apple id but is now mine? It is the same for garage band and keynote.

You can install any Apple application from the online Mac App Store using your own Apple ID.
1 - delete all the Apple applications that were not installed using your Apple ID
2 - empty the Trash (Finder > Empty Trash)
3 - open then sign in to the Mac App Store using your own Apple ID
4 - enter the name of the an application in the search entry box
5 - click on the download button (looks like a cloud)
6 - repeat for other applications
Keynote, Pages, Numbers, iMovie and Garage Band are free to install.
