Memory installation

I have an iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017 with 4 memory slots. Currently, my memory is what the factory installed: 4 GB in two of the slots, with 2 slots empty. It says that the memory slots accept a 2400 MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM memory module.

Here is my question: Can I leave in these two 4-GB factory-installed memory modules AND install two new 8GB memory modules (DDR4-2400 SODIMM 1.2V CL17)? I am asking if it is okay for there to be the two factory-installed 4 GB memory modules and two (personally installed 8 GB memory modules? In other words, do all the memory modules have to be the same size (such as all 4 GB or all 8 GB or whatever)?

Thank you for any advice you can provide.

I would like to ask a follow-on question: When I order the memory modules, should I also buy a kit in order to install the memory on my iMac? Also, since my iMac can work with up to 64 GB of memory, would it be better to leave the two factory-installed modules (with 4GB apiece) and install two 16 GB memory modules?

The reason why I want to do this is that I like to keep a lot of windows open at once and I am running some programs that I think are resource hogs (such as Dropbox, EndNote, and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint). With everything open, I often receive the running out of memory notice.

The people at OWC & the link I provided probably know more than Apple Does About it,at least the people you could ever talk to at Apple.

I was only now able to carve out some time to install the new OWC memory modules that arrived several days ago. But, I was having some problems. The notch for the memory modules in my computer is on the left-hand side. So, I thought Macsales.com sent me the wrong memory modules. I called them and told them the problem, and the nice guy who spoke to me told me to turn the memory modules around and see if the notches lined up. They did line up. Then, he told me to put the original Apple memory module in one of the 4 module "stair steps" (my term) and alternate them with the new OWC memory. I did so, and my computer started right up with no problem. But, I am worried since I left the OWC stickers on the memory modules; will this cause a problem?
