Hello humblenovice,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

We see that after upgrading GarageBand on your Mac, it is not opening. The best recommendation to address issues with GarageBand not opening is to take a look at the following support article to troubleshoot the issue:

Following the moderators suggestion article -

I checked if I have the latest updates -

It was working 100% happy prior to the GB update to 10.3.5 -

I cannot load it and get it to load without audio - by pressing control - the error pops immediately!

There are no external instruments plugged in - all virtual instruments

Something is different in this version

HELP! Bad Daw, sit.

Hi, I have a fix for this issue

Boot your mac from the recovery OS (or a USB stick OS), open terminal and disable the SIP

csrutil disable

then reboot it and open terminal again, type the following commands and code lines in this order, hit enter after each line...

sudo chown -RH user_name:staff /Users/user_name/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10
chmod -R 0700 /Users/user_name/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10
chmod -R -N /Users/user_name/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10

replace user_name with your name that your mac shows in the terminal followed by an $ sign, don't type the $ sign.....

then exit the terminal, reboot from the recovery OS again, enable SIP and reboot again.

csrutil enable

Now you can start Garageband and a dialog pops up where you can download the factory sound library with some additional sounds.....(approx. 1GB download)

cheers
