iMessage IPhone 5

My friend had a iPhone 5. There number was inactive for a couple months but they had WiFi so they could use iMessage. He broke his phone completely and threw it away over a month ago. Will the IMessage stop working after a while and not receive FaceTimes and messages on that phone after the 30 days? I’m not sure how it works or if after a while of not using that iMessage and having the phone broken will it start receiving as a text message instead?

iMessage only works

  • Between Apple devices
  • They must be connected to wifi or cellular

If he no longer has his phone or an Apple device, he won't receive iMessages. They will likely go through as regular SMS unless you have automatic SMS conversion off.

Yes.

Blue means you have sent an iMessage

If it doesn't say delivered that means the person who you are texting either has changed their phone or doesn't have an active connection.

It may stay pending for a while especially if you don't try to resend the message OR if you have automatic conversion of Imessage (blue) to SMS (green) turned on.

It is normal - if you want to text your friend and he has a non iPhone you can hold down on the message and chose "Send as text message", after one or two times this will be automatic.

He’s had his phone broken for over a month and it’s gone. He dosent use any electronics except for Xbox so he hasent signed into his iCloud or anything. Is it normal for the first two weeks to be blue but not delivered? Then the newer messages go to green and FaceTime dosent really ring. Just asking to see why it does that. The blue messages were never delivered. They stay undelivered and the new messages are green.
