directing output in Logic:

Logic / Presonus Question:

I’ve typically recorded multitrack through my SL 24.4.2ai into Logic Pro X and did my mixing in Logic’s mixer. The mixed tracks would play back through Logic’s Stereo Out into the 2-Track In of my Presonus SL (aka channels 25 & 26).

I recently decided to route all my logic tracks back into their respective SL channels (ie.  vocals recorded into inputs 1,2,3,4 in Logic routed to channels 1,2,3,4 of SL, drums into 14 - 17, bass into ….. etc.). This allows me to do my mixing with real sliders and knobs instead of with a mouse. This works fine….. except for Outputs 1 & 2.

In Logic, my stereo output is set to channels 25-26.   However, when I choose Output 1 or 2 in the Logic Mixer, these outputs are labeled “Output 1 - part of Stereo Output”  and consequently are routed to the 2 Track-in of the SL.

For example:

Good:  bass guitar into channel 6 of SL is recorded into Input 6 of Logic. This bass track has its output set to Out 6 and is fed to channel 6 of the SL via the digital return. - This is good.

Bad:  vocal into channel 1 of SL is recorded into Input 1 of Logic. This vocal track has its output set to Out 1 and yet is fed to channel 25 & 26 (2Track-in) of the SL. The vocal does not return to SL channel 1.  This is what I need to fix!

The question:

How can I keep the Stereo Out routed to 25+26 (2Track-in) and have my Output 1 and 2 route to channel 1 and 2 on the StudioLive?

I’m not sure if this if the solution to this is to be found in:

  • Logic
  • Apple’s Audio/Midi Setup
  • SL24.4.2ai
  • Presonus Universal Control

I sure would appreciate some help with this - or at least send me looking in the right direction.
