LTE, Cellular Data, and Wi-Fi Assist

If cellular data is On, why would you need Wi-Fi Assist to connect you to wi-fi when you are away from wi-fi connection? Wouldn't your phone automatically connect you to wi-fi using cellular data because your cellular data is On?

iPhone 13 drops BOTH WiFi and cellular connection overnight My iPhone 13 is dropping both the WiFi and cellular connection overnight. It occurs at home and at work (I work 48 hr shifts) so it’s not isolated to one location. Every morning I have to shutdown and restart. Simply switching airplane mode, WiFi or cellular does not resolve. It requires a full shutdown. Running iOS 16.1.2

iPhone Won't Automatically Connect to Vehicle's Hotspot I’ve got an iPhone 12 running the latest iOS (16.1.1) which had a small data plan associated with it. My car has a built-in hotspot from OnStar which is unlimited. I’d like the iPhone to automatically connect to the vehicle’s hotspot similar to how it automatically connect to regular Wi-Fi connections. Under the hotspot Wi-Fi network properties I’ve turned off the “Low data usage” option as with it being unlimited I don’t wish to limit the data usage on the phone. I’ve also set the Auto-Join Hotspot option to Automatic, but neither of those options appear to do anything as after several minutes I still have to go under Settings - Wi-Fi and manually tap on my car’s Wi-Fi network. I do remember when I first enabled the car’s hotspot it would automatically connect like I want it to…I don’t recall changing anything. Maybe an iOS update changed that behavior??? Does anyone have some other ideas to try? Thanks.

You’ve got it backwards. If Wi-Fi assist is on and the Wi-Fi signal is weak or slow the phone will use cellular data even if you have a Wi-Fi connection.

No. it will continue to try to use Wi-Fi.
